Proud of our past. Ready for the future.
Where Will Tomorrow Take Us?
As Credit Union 1 celebrates it's 70th anniversary in 2022, we're proud to look back on decades of milestones that have helped us grow as a member-owned organization and better serve our fellow Alaskans. Where will the future take us? Watch for highlights of excitement and innovation throughout this year as we approach our official anniversary date in October!
Honoring our History
In 1952, our credit union first began as the Anchorage Teachers Federal Credit Union. Do you someone who was teaching in Anchorage during this early, exciting time in Alaska's past? Even now, we have members visit us to reminisce about how far we've come since those days. We were here for Alaskans when our state was still brand new, through economic ups and downs that have sharpened Alaskans' need for a financial institution that puts people first.
While we began as a teachers credit union that was confined to Anchorage, in 1982 we became Frontier Alaska State Credit Union and expanded to serve anyone who lives or works in Alaska. Over the following decades, we expanded to a 12 branch network that reaches as far north as Nome and south to Ketchikan! Following a merger with two other credit unions in the late 1990s, the new Credit Union 1 emerged as a not-for-profit leader in financial service for Alaskans. Today, we serve nearly 94,000 people statewide.
Innovating through Technology
Credit Union 1 understands how innovative products and services are important to Alaska, and we're proud to stay on the forefront of technology. Things we take for granted now, like credit cards, mobile apps and ATMs, were once leading edge -- and CU1 was among the first (and sometimes very first!) to offer new, convenient services that were designed to help our members achieve their financial goals. You're still seeing this frontier spirit today in examples like our interactive teller machines and the opening of Financial Center South.
Together, we ensure that your credit union remains financially strong and always puts people first. Cheers to what tomorrow will bring!
Our ongoing success is testament to our leadership team, many volunteers and hardworking employees statewide.
