When Credit Union 1 opens a branch, it’s never just about adding a location. It’s about choosing to show up — intentionally and for the long haul — in a community we believe in. That’s what brings us to Homer.
In mid-summer 2026, Credit Union 1 will open a new full-service branch at 475 E. Pioneer Ave., expanding access to local, relationship-based financial services across the southern Kenai Peninsula. The branch will be staffed by local employees (we're hiring now!) and offer the full range of CU1 services, from everyday consumer banking and mortgages to business solutions, supported by modern digital tools.
Homer is shaped by small businesses, fishing families, seasonal work and year-round residents who value independence and connection in equal measure. It serves as a hub for the surrounding communities, and as the area continues to grow, the need for in-person, Alaska-focused financial services has become increasingly clear. Our goal is simple: to be a consistent, reliable financial partner rooted in the community.
Our decision to open in Homer was inspired by the 2045 Homer Comprehensive Plan Update and the community’s shared commitment to thoughtful growth, strong neighborhoods and a thriving local economy. We’re excited to support that vision by providing local service, trusted guidance and the financial tools that help families and businesses build what’s next.
There’s also special meaning in where this new branch will be located. The site at 475 E. Pioneer Ave. was previously home to the Fireweed Gallery, a beloved local business that contributed to Homer’s creative and cultural life for many years. We’re grateful for the legacy created in that space and extend our sincere congratulations to the gallery’s owners as they step into retirement. Carrying forward the spirit of a locally rooted business is something we approach with care and respect.
Credit Union 1 has served the Kenai Peninsula since 1972, and opening a branch in Homer deepens that long-standing commitment. It reflects a deliberate approach to growth that has guided our work across the state — from recent branch openings in Kotzebue, Skagway and Wasilla to the expansion of our business lending program and plans to merge with Fairbanks-based MAC Federal Credit Union.
At the heart of it all is our role as a financial partner for real life. Whether that’s starting a business, buying a home or planning ahead, we’re here to help Alaskans navigate meaningful moments with guidance that reflects the realities of life here.
We’re looking forward to becoming part of the Homer community, earning trust over time and showing up as a steady, familiar presence. As construction progresses, we’ll share additional updates and look forward to welcoming you through our doors this summer.
