FAQ

I thought I already signed up for SavvyMoney?
Now that this service is available directly within Online Access rather than via a separate website, you’ll need to re-enroll. Don’t worry, signing up is quick and easy!

Who can access SavvyMoney?
Within Online Access, SavvyMoney is available to the primary account holder of a CU1 account.

What does SavvyMoney cost?
It’s FREE! Log in as often as you want to check your score.

How does Credit Union 1 receive my credit score?
Credit Union 1 has teamed up with a trusted third-party service provider, SavvyMoney, to deliver your credit score directly to you. We do not intercept this information from SavvyMoney, therefore, no CU1 employee can see your SavvyMoney credit score. It is confidential and available only for you to view within Online Access. In addition, SavvyMoney will never share your personal information with outside entities!

How does SavvyMoney keep my financial information secure?
The security of our members’ financial information is our top priority. Our SavvyMoney service provider also applies its own security measures to SavvyMoney, and this service is certified by McAfee SecureTM, TRUSTe, and Norton Secured. Please note, when you accept the terms of service for SavvyMoney, you are providing your personal information such as name, date of birth, and Social Security Number to SavvyMoney.

Is SavvyMoney an actual credit report?
No. SavvyMoney shows your VantageScore credit score, which ranges from 300 to 850, along with key factors from your credit report that impact your score. It doesn’t include an actual credit report (a detailed report of credit history). However, Credit Union 1 is always happy to meet with you one-on-one to review your credit report and discuss strategies for raising your score.

Can I request a full credit report from SavvyMoney?
Although your credit score is available from SavvyMoney, your full credit report is not. You may request a copy of your full credit report annually at no cost from each of the three credit reporting bureaus (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) at www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling (877) 322-8228. By reviewing your report, you may spot inaccuracies or suspicious activity. Requesting your own credit report is considered a “soft inquiry” and will not impact your credit score.

How often is my credit score updated?
SavvyMoney will automatically update your score once a month. You can update it more frequently by clicking “update” on the page that presents your score. When you log in you will see “Last update: [MM/DD/YYYY]” and “Monthly score update in [30] days” at the top of the page.

Why do credit scores differ?
Over 200 factors of a credit report may be taken into account when calculating a credit score. There are three major credit reporting bureaus – Equifax, Experian and Transunion – and different scoring models that determine consumers’ credit scores. Each model may weigh credit factors differently, and therefore no scoring model is identical. Financial institutions choose the bureaus and scoring models they use. No matter which credit bureau or credit scoring model is used, the following credit ranges remain consistent:

Rating Credit Point Range
Excellent 781-850
Good 661-780
Fair 601-660
Unfavorable   501-600
Deficient Below 500

SavvyMoney gets credit histories from TransUnion and uses the VantageScore credit scoring model. Because it was developed collaboratively by the three major credit bureaus, VantageScore seeks to make score information more uniform between the three bureaus to provide consumers a better picture of their credit health.

Will Credit Union 1 use SavvyMoney’s credit score to make loan decisions?
No. Credit Union 1 uses its own lending criteria for making loan decisions and does not have access to your SavvyMoney credit score.

If Credit Union 1 doesn’t use SavvyMoney’s credit score to make loan decisions, why is it available to members?
Along with Credit Union 1’s other free financial education services, SavvyMoney can help you lift and maintain your credit score so that when it comes time for you to borrow money, you may qualify for the lowest possible interest rate.

What if the information provided by SavvyMoney appears to be wrong or inaccurate?
Should you find inaccuracies in your SavvyMoney credit account information, such as loans or lines of credit that aren’t yours, or inaccurate balances, there is a link within SavvyMoney to file a dispute with TransUnion, the credit bureau that provides SavvyMoney its credit information. To further protect yourself from credit inaccuracies and identify potential fraud, we recommend that you request one free credit report from each of the three credit bureaus annually at www.annualcreditreport.com. Each bureau has its own process for correcting inaccurate information. The Federal Trade Commission’s website offers step-by-step instructions on how to contact the bureaus and correct errors.

Will accessing SavvyMoney show as an inquiry on my credit report?
No. SavvyMoney accesses your credit score as a “soft inquiry.” “Hard inquiries” are used by lenders when you apply for loans to help make decisions about your creditworthiness. Too many hard inquiries will lower a credit score. Using SavvyMoney to check your credit will not affect your score.

Does SavvyMoney offer credit report monitoring as well?
Yes. SavvyMoney offers free credit report monitoring which will alert you of certain types of changes to your credit report, including new credit accounts opened or attempted to be opened, delinquencies, bankruptcies and more.

How do I change my e-mail address or other personal information?
Please contact the credit union directly to change the email address and other information we may have on file for you.

Can I use SavvyMoney on my mobile device?
Not yet. But we’re working hard to make this option available in the future!
