Three Awesome Alaska Locations To Take Your Boat

Written by Credit Union 1 | Jun 16, 2025 8:59:09 PM

At Credit Union 1, we love helping Alaskans get out on the water - and no one knows the best boating spots quite like our team! Whether you're cruising a local lake or dropping anchor in a quiet cove, Alaska offers some of the most breathtaking boating destinations in the world. We asked CU1 employees to share some of their favorite places to take the boat and their picks do not disappoint. Ready to discover a new go-to spot? Let’s set sail!

Pigot Bay

Our favorite spot is Pigot Bay in Prince William Sound, Alaska. The kids enjoy taking kayaks and paddle boards to the beach and have a favorite swimming hole there. They swim in glacier-fed water and then warm up by a hot fire. There’s also a public land use cabin if visiting with extra guests. We’ve enjoyed watching orcas and sea otters in the bay, and there’s several fun hikes nearby. We’ve made great memories as a boating family, and thank CU1 for helping us make it possible!

Fox Island Spit

I highly recommend Fox Island Spit just outside of Seward! It’s a quick boat ride from the Seward Boat Harbor, and the spit features a beautiful rocky beach with crystal-clear water that’s perfect for exploring. There’s a lagoon that fills when the tide is high and leaves behind aquatic life at low tide, plus a stunning waterfall nearby that you can kayak to. The beach is lined with driftwood that is great for small bonfires, and there’s a designated campsite with an incredible view you can book online. I’ve never done it but we’ve seen many people get dropped off by the water taxi from Seward to stay and it looks like quite the adventure!

Prince William Sound

Boating in Prince William Sound lets our family experience Alaska at its wildest and most breathtaking. We love to set off from the Whittier harbor on a calm, sunny day and anchor up for the night in quiet coves surrounded by glacier-carved mountains and waterfalls. The kids fish off the back deck while we take in views that most people will never see. One morning, we even woke up to a halibut already on the line — pure Alaska magic. Every trip feels like an adventure we’ll remember forever, and that’s such a prize with our children.

From hidden gems to local favorites, these CU1 employee-recommended destinations are a great reminder of why we love adventuring in Alaska. Wherever your summer takes you, we’re here to help make those boating dreams a reality - with great rates, local support and a shared love for the Alaska wild. Happy boating!
